COVENANT: US Edition jacket art.

Had a fantastic surprise yesterday, when into my Inbox arrived a message from Stacy Creamer at Touchstone USA, the American publisher of my novels. With it came the above image, which is the first cover-art that I've seen for COVENANT as it's being published initially in the United States ( October 2011 ).

I can't begin to describe how utterly awesome this design is, as it says such an incredible amount about the novel's content! Everything about it is fantastic, and after having been ever so slightly nervous as to how my various covers might look, I now can't wait to see the UK version. To say that Touchstone have done a fabulous job would be a massive understatement, and I reckon that this cover alone will attract real attention from browsers in bookshops across America. So much so, in fact, that one of my friends has pre-ordered a copy based on this artwork alone! Thanks Mel :o)

Wow! Superb cover art. I think you're right in that it is eye catching and intriguing. Bet you got a real buzz first time you seen it. It's one of the joys, and another landmark towards publication, when you first catch sight of the proposed cover. I still get excited five books in.

Thanks Matt. I wasn't sure what they'd done until I downloaded the full-size image, and loved it instantly. Amazing to think how many people are working away behind the scenes to bring my novel to the shelves. I'm really enjoying the ride!

Hey there Dean, my names is Petros and I've been following your story recently. Firstly congrats on your novel, coverwork definitely draws the eye. I'm a seventeen year old Londoner, writing myself. I finished my first novel a couple months ago, and I've tried sending it to agencies via this 'Artists Yearbook'. I just wanted to ask you a question if that's allright?
Some of the agencies ask about yourself and any writing credentials you may have, in a cover letter. I doubt I have any but what typically classifies a writing credential?

Hi Petros,

If you don't have any specific writing credentials, don't worry too much as it won't count against you in an agent's eyes if you're good. I didn't have any myself.

Credentials might include having had a short-story published, or you might win a story competition, or perhaps even have had something self-published.

If you've already completed your first novel then you're well on your way mate - most people don't get that far. Keep writing, stick with it, and sooner or later you'll break through. Good luck!

Hey again thanks for the feedback. Yes I'm definitely not going to give up after this, just need to practice structuring preliminary and cover letters to sound more professional, not as a teenager. You must be on cloud 9 at the moment =) looking forward to reading covenant when it comes out, sounds exciting. Thanks again.
